Olivia Cooke was born on December 27, 1993, in Oldham, Greater Manchester, England. She is an English actress who has starred as Emma Decody in the thriller Bates Motel (2013-2017) and as Queen Alicent Hightower in House of the Dragon (2022-present).

Early life and career

Cooke began her acting career in theater, appearing in productions of The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13¾ at Leicester's Curve theatre and A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Royal Exchange, Manchester. She made her television debut in a 2012 episode of Blackout and went on to appear in the television films Sadie J (2013) and The Mystery of Screaming Skull (2013). Cooke's breakthrough role came in 2013 when she was cast as Emma Decody in the A&E series Bates Motel, a prequel to the film Psycho. She starred in the series for five seasons, until its conclusion in 2017.

House of the Dragon

In 2022, Cooke was cast as Queen Alicent Hightower in the HBO series House of the Dragon, a prequel to the popular series Game of Thrones. The series follows the events leading up to and during the Dance of the Dragons, a civil war that tore the Targaryen dynasty apart. Cooke's performance as Alicent has been praised by critics, with many calling it one of the best performances in the series.
