Extreme Temperatures Pose Danger, Surge in Heat-Related Deaths Likely

Climate Change Intensifies Frequency and Severity of Heat Waves

Extreme heat is a deadly weather condition that is becoming more common and severe as climate change warms the planet. According to the state weather bureaus, a Heat Index of 33C to 41C is classified as extremely dangerous. The frequency and intensity of extreme heat and heat waves will continue to rise in the 21st century due to climate change.

The high temperatures recorded in various parts of Asia are a result of climate change and the El Niño weather pattern. Heat-related deaths and illnesses are preventable, yet approximately 1220 people in the United States are killed by extreme heat each year.
